Brainspotting is an amazing brain and body-based therapy approach that uses points in the field of vision that show where negative experiences and blocks are held.
When you’ve experienced a trauma (a feeling of helplessness), we find that the brain can hold onto that memory. As a result, people can begin to experience a negative physical response as that memory is triggered. Most times, we are unaware that the memory exists or has been triggered and therefore are confused about what is happening to our body. Whether it’s an athlete that suddenly develops the “YIPS” or a performer who stumbles over well-rehearsed lines, it feels like these negative physical responses appear out of nowhere.
In therapy, while fixating on this vision point, Brainspotting allows your body to naturally pinpoint the emotional trauma and eliminate the physical response and negative feelings surrounding it. The response is much quicker than talk therapy and life changing.
